Returns
At Fairhaven Press, we want our customers to be satisfied with their purchases. In most cases, Fairhaven Press will accept returns within 30 days of purchase. Some restrictions do apply. Please email amy@fairhavenpress.com to request a return authorization and more details. We don't accept returns on bulk orders, so please check with us about getting a sample copy before making a bulk order.
Sales Tax
Rules on sales taxes for US companies is a rapidly changing field. We intend to fully comply with any new tax laws that are passed. For right now, we are only subject to an 8.25% sales tax rates for books shipped to Texas addresses. That will likely change in coming years.
Bulk Orders, Bookstores and Review Copies
The number of review copies we offer are very limited but will generally be provided to credentialed media, faculty and others upon request. Please let us know if you will accept an electronic review copy instead of a print copy when you put in your request.
We do offer standard publishing terms on a limited basis to brick and mortar independent bookstores. Bookstores can always individually order our titles either directly or through normal distribution wholesalers. We will consider wholesale discounts to selected and established online resellers. If you are planning on purchasing in bulk for your school, workplace etc… please contact us directly for discounted rates. Contact amy@fairhavenpress.com
Libraries
We offer up all titles to libraries at the standard retail rate. Most of our titles are available through Ingram and Baker & Taylor. They can also be ordered directly from our site or major online retailers. E-books are distributed directly from FHP and we do participate with various companies that are working on creating better PDF e-book options for library patrons. A lot is changing in this particular field at the moment, so if a title you are looking for isn’t available, let us know. We offer e-books to libraries at standard retail rates with unlimited checkouts. We do have very limited tech support in the area of e-books though, so libraries wishing to order will need to already have a system in place for the acceptance of e-books into their catalog. Our eBooks are currently offered in EPUB format.
Privacy
Fairhaven Press respects the privacy of our customers. We send only a limited number of marketing emails to those who sign up for our mailing lists. You can opt out of these at any time. We do not under any circumstances sell, lease or lend our customer databases to any third party. To comply with European Union requirements on cookies notification, we are adding in the following explanation of our privacy policy:
Cookies
To make this site work properly, we sometimes place small data files called cookies on your device. Most big websites do this too.
What are Cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another.
What Type do We Use?
Analytics
We utilize Google Analytics to keep track of where our visitors come from and what they do on our site. This is general information only and doesn’t give us any specific demographic information.
Communications
When you submit a comment through the “contact us” form, the software does log your IP address in case any threatening, spammy, or abusive comments need to be tracked. These are deleted once the message has been read. We also use Google forms and surveys with basic Google Analytics information.
Storefront
Our storefront software uses cookies as necessary to complete the financial transaction. We do keep a database of all customers for financial and tax reasons.
Classroom
Our classroom uses cookies to remember your login information between visits and to store login information during your current session in the classroom.
How to Control Cookies
You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish – for details, see aboutcookies.org. You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. If you do this, however, you may have to manually adjust some preferences every time you visit a site and some services and functionalities may not work.
Intellectual Property
Fairhaven Press holds full copyright and trademark rights for all of our materials on our website or in our books. We do strictly enforce our IP rights and aggressively pursue those who steal or abuse them. Our e-books are offered without DRM protection for the benefit of our customers. We want our readers to be able to move their book files from one device to another without restriction. This sets us apart from other publishers who don't trust their customers not to steal from them. Please help us keep this policy in place by helping us protect our intellectual property. Someone who purchases and electronic product is allowed to transfer the product to all of the electronic devices that they own for the personal use of those within their household only. If someone wants their own copy, please ask them to buy it themselves. Under no circumstances should any copy of our intellectual property be posted online or shared.
Our book covers are copyrighted designs with trademarked elements and may not be used online or through any other means by third parties without our explicit written consent, except as allowed by law. We do have to unfortunately spend way too much time prosecuting pirates. Accredited news organizations are allowed to use limited excerpts of the texts and images of the cover for limited editorial review purposes without permission. We strongly support fair usage for editorial and educational purposes. Sorry for the rant. We don't mean to sound intimidating; we have just recently been through an exhaustive battle with pirates using our book covers to mislead people and we want to let everyone know that we will fiercely protect our IP from unscrupulous persons.
